Mid Island Allergy Continues on with Telehealth

Although the CDC and federal guidelines are limiting gatherings and enforcing social distancing, Mid Island Allergy will continue to see patients using Telehealth. In addition to limited office hours, Telehealth allows us to continue to treat patients amidst this pandemic.

Our three locations in Plainview, Bay Shore, and Holbrook continue office hours but will be limited. This is to ensure the safety of our patients, as well as allowing time for professional medical sanitization of our office.

In order to better serve our patients, Telehealth offers a virtual means of treating patients. Telehealth allows us to treat patients who do not feel comfortable coming to our office, or need to quarantine or self isolate.

How Does Telehealth Work?

All you need for a successful Telehealth visit is an internet connection, an email address, and a computer or mobile device that has a camera. Many patients use tablets and smartphones, since they are more readily available and easier to manage.

After reaching out to us for an appointment, you will be sent information on how to connect to the Telehealth app. All data and information is transferred and stored on a server that complies with HIPAA standards.

What Happens During a Telehealth Appointment?

When you log on for your appointment, you will enter a virtual waiting room. Once the doctor is ready, they will begin the video call with you.

During the video call, the doctor will address your issues and prescribe medications if necessary. If the doctor feels you need to be evaluated in person, an office appointment will be scheduled.

Depending on your needs and current treatment plan, you will be able to see Drs. Puglisi or Grillo or allergy PA, Jennifer Ancona. Telehealth allows us to continue treating patients with comprehensive individualized care.

Does Insurance Cover Telehealth?

After the COVID-19 pandemic, most plans will cover Telehealth services for patients already established with a practice. For new patient visits, an in office appointment is preferred, however, there are exceptions to this on a case by case basis. Please call our offices during our hours of operation for any other questions regarding Telehealth services that we offer.

While the details of this pandemic and response to it is changing day to day, the best thing to do is regularly check your healthcare plan’s website.
